The Cast Stone Institute hosts the Cast Stone Excellence Awards Competition annually in conjunction with the Annual Convention. Beautiful cast stone projects across the nation are the result of strong creative vision by architects and quality execution by mason contractors, as well as advanced manufacturing capabilities of Certified Cast Stone Producers. The purpose of the Cast Stone Excellence Awards are to recognize the outstanding design of Architects, the skilled craftsmanship of the Mason Contractors and manufacturing excellence of the Certified Cast Stone Producers.

Previous Award Presentations

Design & Craftsmanship

  • Any project substantially completed in the current award year, or two (2) immediate previous years, will be eligible.

  • Projects must be submitted by a CSI Certified Producer Member.

  • Eligible non-winning projects from previous years will be re-submitted by CSI unless the producer notifies CSI Staff. New photos may be submitted.

  • A project may be submitted into more than one category.

  • The Architects, Mason Contractors, and Producer Members on winning projects will receive awards.

  • Associate Members may assist Producer Members in completing applications and will be recognized accordingly.

  • Awarded projects from each category must be in good standing with CSI by the entry due date.

Manufacturing

  • Judged exclusively by the Producer Members of the main judging panel.

  • All submitted projects that did not receive a Cast Stone Excellence Award are automatically evaluated for Manufacturing Excellence — no separate submission is needed.

  • Producer Members will receive awards for winning projects.

  • Associate Members may assist Producer Members in completing applications and will be recognized accordingly.

  • Awarded projects from each category must be in good standing with CSI by the entry due date.

Judging Procedures & Criterion

  • The judging panel will consist of two (2) Architects, two (2) Mason Contractors, and two (2) Producers who have experience in design, construction, and manufacturing in the cast stone industry.

  • Judges are not eligible to judge if they have a project competing in the current competition.

  • A project's identity will be kept confidential during the judging process to prevent any biases that may occur.

  • Each project will be evaluated on a scale of 1 to 10 in five key areas.

  • For the Design and Craftsmanship Excellence Awards, the following are the criteria:

    • Design

    • Appropriate use of Cast Stone

    • Craftsmanship

    • Masonry Difficulty

    • Aesthetic Appeal

  • For the Manufacturing Excellence Awards, the following are the criteria:

    • Cast Stone Shop Drawings

    • Difficulty of Manufacturing

    • Manufacturing Craftsmanship
